Even though the image that invariably comes to mind when thinking about Santorini are its volcano and sunsets, its beaches are also an extraordinary sight. If the moon had beaches, then they would be like the ones on Santorini.
The mere thought of swimming in volcanic waters, above such a complex and recently formed seabed, seems outlandish as does everything on the island. The deep blue of the Aegean Sea combined with the unique colors of the rock formations which range from dark brown, volcanic black, ochre and red, compose a surreal tableau.
THE RED BEACH
As hard as it may be to believe, the Red Beach is actually red! It is one of nature’s magnificent sights and stretches out behind a row of lava monoliths!
Such a beach is a rarity, anywhere in the world, and must definitely be put on your bucket list. Its distinct morphology renders it one of the most scenic globally. The black mountain gives way to the red beach and the crystal blue waters of the Aegean compose a mesmerizing landscape.
THE WHITE BEACH
The White Beach is the only one of its kind on the island. The rocks have retained a whitish hue which, compared to the dominant volcanic colors, render it a unique sight in Santorini.
The white rocks and volcanic cliffs composed mainly of pumice stone merge into strange formations that capture the imagination and its crystal-clean waters are tantalizingly tempting.
THE BLACK BEACH (KAMARI)
The beauty of the scenery created by nature over thousands of years, stretches before one’s eyes at the Black Beach, which is one of a kind. The black rocks seem to dive into the Aegean blue and the beauty is incomparable.
Volcanic activity has created a landscape which is in itself a sight worth visiting.
